Numbers for Support Seeking Vets Released!

Posted on August 12, 2012 at 3:25 PM

Below are the numbers for female veterans in the Oakland, Wayne and Genesee counties that sought services at least one HMIS participating agency between 1/1/2012 and 3/31/2012. THIS IS FOR 2012 FIRST QUARTER. Remember, these are the ones who sought out services, so we know the numbers are significantly more. And in the coming year it has been reported by ABC that thousands will be returning to Mid MI in the coming year.

  1. 182 Female Veterans
  2. Average age was 43.2. 18% were under the age of 30 years of age.
  3. A total of 48 at-risk female veterans were counted. These include veterans that are temporarily doubled-up, living with over-crowding, or received an eviction notice with more than 2 weeks until eviction. 17 were living as singles and 31 were accompanied by at least 1 child (in family).
  4. A total of 134 were homeless at the time of the count. These included veterans living on the streets, in shelters, and within 2 weeks of eviction. 77 reported that they were living alone, and 60 were accompanied by at least 1 child. 3 veterans requested services as a family and as a single during the quarter and were therefore included in both sub populations. The 134 is an unduplicated number.
